The Importance of Speed Bumps

Speed bumps force you to slow down so that you can pass through the bumps with ease. You cannot go too fast over the bumps because you will damage your car. That is why the Texas government and locals have so much faith in speed bumps, as they can be a lifesaving feature of roads.

Speed Bump Installation

Speed bumps are commonly available in either asphalt or rubber material. Other options include concrete, metal, plastic. Plastic and rubber options are easy to install on surfaces. Both rubber and plastic are lightweight but are only a temporary solution. Other types of speed bumps are hard to fit because of the cluttered components, which can make it hard to remove in winter or when the weather is cold, but this is not the case with plastic and rubber speed bumps. You can uninstall them with much ease.

When it comes to compression, rubber is much better than concrete and asphalt. This means it is less likely to cause damage to a vehicle if it is hit at a high speed. However, plastic and rubber are not ideal on roads that have heavy traffic because the high compression makes them less effective at slowing traffic, as opposed to asphalt bumps. However, in standard settings rubber is an ideal option because it is cheap, durable, and easy to install.

Difference Between Speed Bumps and Speed Humps

  • Speed humps
Speed humps are typical in areas where the maximum speed required is between 10 and 15 mph. They are usually placed on connector roads or local streets where traffic should be smooth. Areas with schools and playgrounds use speed humps as well.

  • Speed bumps
Speed bumps are a little bit different from speed humps. They are an aggressive option. They are placed in areas such as driveways and parking, where vehicles and pedestrians share insufficient space. Speed bumps reduce vehicle speed to around 2mph, giving both vehicles and pedestrians enough time to respond amicably to one another. Speed bumps are not effective on major roads because they force vehicles to stop almost completely, something that can cause severe damage to a fast-moving vehicle.

When to Replace Speed Bumps

There is no definite time to replace speed bumps. However, factors such as wear and tear may prompt bump replacement.
